4 Tips on Preparing Your Body for IVF

Despite its effectiveness, many couples still find IVF one of the most challenging types of fertility treatments. Anxiety is very common, typically around whether or not the treatment will work. Unfortunately, being stressed during the treatment period can hinder results. This is why pre-treatment preparation is highly recommended if you’re considering IVF. Below are three ways you can increase the odds of successful conception:

1.    Abstain from smoking. Many studies have shown that smoking causes hormonal fluctuation in women, which can lead to menstrual irregularities and make it more difficult for them to conceive. There’s also evidence that smoking reduces IVF success rate by a third so women undergoing treatment should quit smoking altogether.

2.    Limit caffeine intake. Caffeine is known to have potential impact on fertility and is also linked to an increased risk of stillbirth, miscarriage and congenital deformities. Although there is no sufficient evidence for the conclusion, women are still advised to reduce consumption to 2 cups a day.

Ensure a healthy diet. The right nutrition is very crucial if you’re preparing to conceive. Consume fruits and vegetables every day and supplement them with prenatal vitamins, specifically folic acid, iron, and calcium. Folic acid in particular promotes normal cell division, reducing the risk of developmental abnormalities.
