Reproductive System: Factors That Affect a Woman's Fertility

Many may not know, but heredity, environment, and lifestyle can all play a part when it comes to infertility for both men and women. Female fertility is a woman's ability to conceive a biological child. All women, whether she is trying to be pregnant or not, should be aware of the factors that boost fertility.

What factors negatively affect fertility?

Being overweight can contribute to infertility. Studies have shown that extra pounds can affect hormone production and make it more difficult for a woman to get pregnant. On the other hand, being underweight does the same. The key here is maintaining a healthy body weight.

Stress, anxiety, and tension, as we all know is not good for our mind and body, and can also be a leading cause of infertility. This is due to the fact that it causes the hormones to change, which can lead to fertility problems or complications.

It is no surprise either that age can be a factor relating to infertility. The older a woman is, the less likely she is to conceive. Delaying pregnancy can decrease the likelihood that you'll be able to conceive. Once a woman ages, her eggs become less fertilized than those of a younger woman's eggs, and might not develop normally even after fertilization occurs. A woman's best reproductive years are in her 20s.

A woman's sex history also effects her fertility. Sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, can cause further complications, diseases and fertility problems, even years after a woman contracts them. Women, who have irregular cycles or have a suspected risk factor for infertility should not hesitate to go to a fertility center.
